Trustees and Members

A Warm Welcome from the Chair of Trustees

It is a real privilege to be writing this introduction as the new Chair of Trustees at Denefield. I step into this role at an exciting moment in the school’s journey, following another year of impressive success and growth.

This summer’s exam results were remarkable across both GCSE and A-level/BTEC, reflecting not only the talent and determination of our students, but also the dedication of our staff and the unwavering support of families. From students taking up places at Russell Group universities and prestigious apprenticeships, to those making their next steps in vocational routes, Denefield continues to deliver on its promise of Success for Life.

But education at Denefield is about more than just results. At the heart of our work are the CHARACTER values – Confidence, Happiness, Articulation, Resilience, Ambition, Courage, Tolerance, Empathy and Respect. These values guide everything they do, shaping well-rounded young people who are ready to thrive in the world beyond school. They are particularly pertinent in today’s world, where challenges can test our resolve; developing strength of character ensures our students are prepared not only to succeed but also to contribute positively to society.

In short, our values help nurture students from roots to flight: giving them the grounding, stability and support they need to grow, and then the confidence, skills and ambition to soar into their futures.

We are delighted that this September, we have welcomed more students into Year 7 than ever before. As our student body grows, we continue to recognise and celebrate the richness of our diverse community. We are deeply committed to ensuring that every student feels seen, supported and empowered, especially those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Through tailored support and inclusive practices, we help all learners reach their full potential and thrive both academically and personally.

This growing demand reflects the confidence that families place in Denefield and the education we provide. To meet this expansion, our portfolio continues to strengthen as we welcome talented new staff across the school, including a new Head of Music, whose leadership opens up a new wealth of opportunity in performance, creativity, and cultural life.

We are also continuing to invest in our facilities to create the very best learning environment. Over the summer, we developed a brand-new Sixth Form common room, designed in consultation with students, providing an excellent space for both study and social time. Alongside this, we have further developed our IT provision with a fully furnished IT centre and the latest 3D printing technology, ensuring our students are equipped with the tools and skills they need for the future.

This year, we are placing a particular focus on attendance. We know that every day in school matters, not just for learning but for belonging, friendships, and opportunity. Our aim is to encourage students to want to come to school, to feel inspired, supported and excited about their day. Working together as staff, parents, carers and trustees, we can ensure that every young person at Denefield feels that sense of purpose and connection.

Looking ahead, September 2026 will mark Denefield’s 50th birthday. This milestone will give us the chance to reflect with pride on all that has been achieved over the last half-century, while also looking confidently to the future. It will be a time to celebrate the generations of students, staff, parents, and community members who have shaped Denefield into the school it is today. We look forward to commemorating this golden anniversary together, recognising our heritage while reaffirming our commitment to excellence for the next fifty years.

Denefield remains a school rooted in community. Whether through academic success, sporting achievements, artistic creativity, or service opportunities, our students are showing daily what it means to grow in character and to make a difference.

As I look ahead to the coming year, I feel confident, optimistic, and proud of all that Denefield stands for. On behalf of the Trust Board, I thank you for your continued support and invite you to join us in celebrating, encouraging and inspiring the next generation.

If you would like to know more about how the Trust Board supports the school or would even like to add your own support by joining us as a trustee,  Please email the Governance Professional at GovPro@Denefield.org.uk. We would love to hear from you!
