CCF Field Day

On Wednesday 13 March 2024, nine Year 11 Cadets prepared for a night-time exercise and camping at Bramley Military Training ground in Hampshire.

They arrived just before 7.00pm to unload equipment and make camp in an old warehouse. Although dry, the cadets were sleeping on concrete floors; the roll mats and sleeping bags provided were military grade. They headed out at 9.30pm to patrol, their objective was to find the spy and obtain information without getting caught! Objective was achieved slightly later than planned but cadets were back to base by 11.00pm. Hot chocolate and pizza’s ready for their return, and lights out by midnight.

Rally was at 6.45am, cadets broke camp and tidied away, this was followed by breakfast and a run through of the day’s activities. Year 10 cadets arrived at 9.30am ready for the demo of how to storm an enemy position and take control. Pyrotechnics and gas smoke screens added to the realism. Cadets then split into smaller groups to rotate around six stands. The highlight for most cadets was the clearing a building simulation, where they got to fire blank rounds. Finally, 4.00pm came, clear down and declarations complete, back on the bus and home just in time to avoid the rain.

A fantastic experience for all involved!
