COP29 at Reading Borough Council
The UN Climate Change Conference is one of the world's most important meetings on climate change and is attended by more than 50,000 delegates every year. It includes diplomats, climate scientists and leaders of countries who come together to address environmental challenges. This year COP29 is taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan from 11 to 22 November 2024.
In collaboration with the InterClimate Network charity, Reading Borough Council hosts Reading Schools' Model Climate Conference annually, a local initiative mirroring the real COP. This year, Denefield was proud to participate alongside seven other Reading schools on Tuesday 12 November.
During the first part of the conference, Denefield Sixth Form students represented Nigeria and Brazil and presented opening speeches, put forward the countries' views and negotiated on key issues.
In the second part, the students raised issues that were close to home and shared their views about climate action in Reading and West Berkshire. The following issues were raised in front of the local decision makers:
- Reading bus prices for young people
- Flats being built in the Reading town centre
- Traffic congestion on the roads
- Closure of shopping places
We are incredibly proud of all our students who represented Denefield at this prestigious event and played an active role in tackling climate change.
NHS Flu Immunisation Years 7 to 11
If you have a child in Years 7 to 11, please ensure you have completed the consent form for them to receive their NHS Flu Immunisation by 3.00pm on Tuesday 26 November 2024.

Year 7 Rugby team
A massive congratulation to the Denefield Year 7 Boys Rugby team for finishing fourth out of 24 schools in the Reading Schools Rugby Union League. The team performed well throughout the league and won seven out of ten matches. We are very proud of our talented Rugby team.

Denefield Christmas Card Competition 2024
Every year, to celebrate the festive spirit in our local community, Denefield students are invited to take part in Denefield Christmas card competition. It can be a 'Season's Greetings' card for those who prefer.
Each card should:
- Be an original design
- Include the school logo
- Include a festive message - It doesn’t have to be a Christmas message.
Each card could:
- Use the house colours
- Embrace the CHARACTER values
The winning cards will be printed and will be delivered to our neighbours in December. All entries must be with the tutors by Friday 6 December.
