Labour Market Information (LMI)

What is Labour Market Information and how can it help me?

When you are thinking about the type of job you would like to do in the future, it is helpful to understand trends in the job market so you can make informed choices. This is known as ‘labour market information’ and is often referred to as LMI.

LMI can give you lots of useful information including:

  • which job areas are growing and which are declining
  • the number of people employed in certain jobs
  • which industries are recruiting, and where
  • which skills employers are looking for.

Right here, across the UK and around the world, the world of work is changing. Some jobs that were around ten years ago no longer exist. Some of today’s jobs might not be available by the time you start your first job.  The Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership collects data from a variety of sources to provide you with information here: TVB Intelligence - Research Data HubHere you will also find the latest Labour Market Information report.

Use your Unifrog account to find out what is happening with jobs both locally and around the world.  Every career profile has a section for this information at the bottom of the page and the Know How Library has further information on many employers and sectors.

Nomis is a service provided by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the UK’s largest independent producer of official statistics. On this website, they publish statistics related to population, society and the labour market at national, regional and local levels. These include data from current and previous censuses.

This link will take you straight to the information for West Berkshire, but you can search for other areas if you are thinking of relocating.
