Following a busy couple of weeks in school, the academic year has almost ended and students across the school are now undoubtedly excited about the summer holidays.
In my final blog of this year, I wanted to share with you the success of our very first CHARACTER Week. Last week many of our Year 7 students visited Crickhowell and reported the fun that they had participating in numerous adventures including hill walking, canoeing, rock climbing as well as furthering relationships with their peers and staff. It was a pleasure to visit Crickhowell on Tuesday 12 July and experience some of the challenges that the students faced! Those in Year 7 that remained at school had just as much enjoyment, the highlight clearly the overnight camp on the school site. Year 8 and Year 9 also benefitted from new experiences including meditation; growth mind set; tap dancing; art therapy and logic puzzles, all activities designed to enhance the CHARACTER of each individual. My thanks to all staff for their preparation and delivery which made the week enjoyable for all.
Hire character, train skill
As many of you will be aware we held our first Summer Fayre for many years on 15 July 2016. I am delighted to say that it was a great success and my thanks to Mrs Emerson, Mrs Doctor and our fundraising group for their excellent organisation leading up to the event as well as for their fabulous ideas and support. My thanks also to all staff, students, parents, carers and local community who attended or made a contribution in some way. The evening was certainly a busy one with a variety of entertainment and activities for all ages. We look forward to hosting another Summer Fayre next year and maybe another winter event with carols around the tree in December.
A positive attitude will lead to positive outcomes
Finally, may I thank all of you for your support of Denefield School. It has been a privilege leading this school as Headteacher and together we have achieved a great amount. As we strive to continually improve, we will build on these foundations in the forthcoming year and the years to come.
