This consultation seeks your views on our draft Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) Policy, which we have developed in line with requirements from the Department for Education (DfE).
In June 2019, the DfE published ‘Relationships education, relationships and sex education (RSE) and health education’ (June 2019). This guidance:
The DfE initially required that the new RSE curriculum was taught from September 2020. Following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the government revised this to summer 2021.
The topics above are covered in our RSE Policy and RSE Curriculum. The new requirements formalise expectations but don’t make significant changes to what we teach our students. Many of the topics required by the government were already taught as part of our CHARACTER programme, consisting of assemblies, tutorial periods or during drop down days. They will now be taught as part of our Success for Life lessons as well as assemblies, tutorial periods and drop down days.
