Library & Resource Centre

Denefield’s welcoming Library and Learning Resource Centre (LLRC) provides a modern and attractive space for the whole school community to enjoy. With a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction books, DVDs, audiobooks and access to academically-approved websites, the library supports the school curriculum, independent learning and promotes reading for pleasure. The library also houses 32 computers with internet access for use throughout the school day, including 12 computers exclusively for Sixth Form.

The library is open from 8am to 4pm. This means the library can be used before and after school, as well as at break and lunch times. The library is often booked for lessons or tutor activities, whilst Sixth Form students also have access to the computers and resources for quiet work during independent study periods. The library is a great space for students to do homework, there is a printer available for students to use, as well as providing plenty of choice of interesting fiction, non-fiction, manga and general interest books to read.

Students are encouraged to get involved within the library: Denefield has an excellent team of Library Ambassadors and Student Librarians who volunteer in the library and who help plan and organise library events for the school community.  Any student can apply at the start of each term to join the team. Students can also join Book Club (run weekly) which is very much student-led with exciting and engaging activities; or attend Film Night (run termly) where a popular new film is voted for and played in the library after school.

Each year Denefield participates in The Carnegie Awards, with attendance at the Carnegie Conference - a day of presentations, discussions and celebrations with students from other Berkshire schools. Denefield also participates in The Berkshire Book Awards – where new fiction is read, discussed, and voted for in libraries and schools across Berkshire.

The Library aims to support students learning, encourage wider reading, inspire students to read for pleasure, and promote the importance of libraries in a wider social setting. Denefield’s library offers its students an all-inclusive, safe and friendly learning environment enabling them to develop their CHARACTER values such as ambition, happiness and confidence.
