As part of the provision for high attaining students the school runs a programme of after school talks. These are delivered by guest speakers and members of staff covering a range of topics designed to introduce students to new topics, subjects and career opportunities. The timetable for these talks will be sent out as part of the Red Brick Newsletter to all high attaining, gifted or talented students that are on our registers, although any student with an interest is welcome to attend.
The timetable will be available here on the website and advertised around the school. Students that would like to attend any of these talks should register their interest with Mr Thomas (CTS@denefield.org.uk)
Some of the previous talks that have been offered include:
Medicine and Health Care by Dr Ian Bullock - Royal College of Physicians
We would like to extend a massive thank you to Dr Ian Bullock from the Royal College of Physicians for leading an informative and motivational talk on possible careers in medicine and the wider healthcare sector. A group of 23 students from Years 8 to 11 listened intently as Dr Bullock spoke about his personal journey into healthcare, how to evaluate career suitability, and how to start a journey into a career within this sector. The session ended with the opportunity for students to ask questions, and it was clear that some of our students are very passionate about pursing a medical career in the future. We are looking forward to our next talk in the ‘Twilight Talks’ series, which will include Law and career opportunities within the arena of professional sport - please watch out for details in the coming weeks.
An Introduction to Classics by Mr James Bamforth - Head of Classics and VIth Form at Pangbourne College)
