Students travelling to school by bus
If your child travels to school by bus you will be well aware of the problems caused by the recent reorganisation of services by Reading Buses. I am grateful to those parents who have taken the trouble to contact both the school and Reading Buses to advise of the difficulties encountered. This has been very helpful in bringing to the bus company’s attention the strength of opinion on this matter. Reading Buses, to their credit, have listened to our joint concerns and we have been advised that there will now be a further revision of services which will be effective from 11 January 2010.
In the morning, the 915 bus will depart approximately eight minutes earlier along its route than currently. It will leave Reading West Station at 07:47 and arrive at Denefield at 08:11.
There will be two route 16 buses, both double-deckers, which will depart from Reading Station at 07:40 and 07:50, arriving at Denefield at 08:12 and 08:20 respectively. Clearly, there could be an issue with capacity on the 07:50 service if the majority of students decide to catch the later of the two buses. Please encourage your child to be at the bus stop in time to catch the 07:40 service so that there is a follow-up bus available at 07:50 if the first is full.
The timetable for the contracted bus, route 991, will be unaffected.
In the afternoon, both the 915 bus and the route 16 bus will be double-deckers and both will depart from the Denefield site at approximately 15:10. Students will no longer need to leave the school premises to wait for the route 16 bus on Long Lane. Once again, the contracted bus, route 991, will continue unaffected.
