Information and Communication Technology
The ICT Department aims to inspire students to be confident, competent, and independent users of ICT by developing their skills, knowledge and understanding using a range of different software applications.
Key Stage 3
From September 2011, students in Years 7 and 8 are taught ICT through the broader curriculum. There are appropriate opportunities for students to apply and develop ICT capability in a range of subjects and contexts.
All students in Year 9 will complete one unit of work from the Diploma in Digital Applications (DiDA) suite of qualifications.
To access the unit of work, please click on 'Unit 1 - Using ICT' in the DiDA unit information below.
Key Stage 4
Years 10 and 11
All students complete the OCR Nationals in ICT where they have the opportunity to learn how to use the Microsoft Office applications in a business context, and design and develop an animation. This is equivalent to one GCSE. Students are taught in mixed ability groups and have to complete a portfolio of evidence which is internally assessed and externally moderated.
Others work on the Diploma in Digital Applications (DiDA). Each unit completed is equivalent to one GCSE and requires work from units on: 'Using ICT', 'Multimedia', 'Graphics' and 'ICT in Enterprise'. Again, there are no examinations and students present their evidence of work in an e-portfolio.
