Denefield also runs a variety of free computer courses for the over 50’s including beginners, email, internet and digital photography. These courses were originally funded by The National Lottery through Awards for All. A waiting list is in operation for these free sessions but please contact our Extended Schools Manager for more information.
In October 2008 Denefield launched its Whacky Scrap Races family fun design and build sessions on Saturday mornings. The activity was a resounding success. You can find out more about Whacky Scrap Races and how to get involved by clicking here...
Each term a small-scale challenge will be set based on Scrapheap Challenge and awards will be given to the family team with the best working model. This exciting project is funded by The National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund. Whacky Scrap Races is open to everyone in the wider community so why not get a few family members or friends together to take part and register a team now with our Extended Schools Manager (see contact details below)!
The school facilities are also available for hire as the school is open until 10pm during the week and over the weekend. Why not hire our sports hall, gym or assembly hall for indoor sports, parties, talks and exhibitions or our sports field for outdoor activities. To find out more about lettings please contact the Finance Office on 0118 9728964
Various local clubs also operate at the school and potential members are always welcome.
These include:
For adults: Lanes Badminton Club, Weight Watchers and Rosemary Conley
For children: Tilehurst Panthers, Purley Jubilee FC and Westwood Wanderers.
Denefield is part of the Tilehurst & Purley partnership of 7 schools which operate under “Inspire4Life” on the Government’s Extended Schools initiative. The partnership’s aim is to provide local activities that meet residents’ needs, which are well supported by the school’s community and are sustainable in the longer term. For more information about what is on offer at Denefield and the other schools in the cluster including contact details for the activities listed above, please refer to http://www.inspire4life.info and check out the 'Forthcoming Events' and ‘Local Activities’ web pages. Other useful resources are also listed there!
If you have any questions about any of our extended services or community opportunities, or have an idea for a future activity, please contact Sue Hale, our Extended Schools Manager on 0118 9728978 or email shale@denefield.org.uk
